What to expect
Cardiac screening is a proactive way to assess your heart health and manage any risk factors before they lead to more serious problems. It aims to detect issues early so that appropriate steps can be taken to reduce the chances of cardiovascular disease.
Screening is particularly valuable for people with a family history of heart conditions, as well as those with lifestyle or health-related risk factors.
Who can benefit from cardiac screening?
Although anyone may benefit, screening is especially recommended for individuals who:
-
Have a family history of heart conditions (such as heart attack, angina, heart failure, valve disease, or rhythm disorders)
-
Have cardiovascular risk factors (such as high blood pressure, raised cholesterol, diabetes, or obesity)
-
Have lifestyle-related risks (including smoking, excess alcohol intake, low physical activity, or ongoing stress)
-
Are over the age of 40 (as routine cardiovascular assessments are recommended at this stage)
-
Participate in competitive sport or high-exertion activities that place added strain on the heart
